Find out what I discuss with The Next Web News about the secrets to Israel’s startup boom!
There are over 6,000 startups in Israel and 8 billion people, making it a sister city of Silicon Valley. However, what’s behind this success? It’s not quite on par with Silicon Valley (yet), but may just reach that mark in the next decade. There are five major reasons for the thriving startup scene, surprisingly starting with the country’s military. Unit 8200 is a major Israeli incubator, a rich sector for technology and is overflowing with promotional opportunities.
Reason two is natural resources—or lack thereof. Numerous studies have shown that when natural resources are lacking, that instils hustle into the people (whereas places rich with these resources don’t have a surplus of startups). Third, there’s a natural need to depend on yourself in Israel. Survival of the fittest is in full swing here.
There’s also plenty of diversity in Israel, in every way you can imagine. Culturally, religiously, tribally and many Israelis are up for questioning how and why things have “always been done this way.” It’s a natural environment for entrepreneurs. Finally, the major immigration is constantly bringing in new people who are hungry for success and willing to go above and beyond to “make it.”
